Europe, community of cultures, is a set of companies and different cultures, which inrecent decades has undergone changes and important advances in all directions andspheres, which makes us define these phenomena as a comprehensive unit that is the European union, a creation and innovation of the man in Europe, an evolution ofsociety towards the community.
The European idea has not been a spontaneous idea of the 20th century, but it is acontinuous phenomenon of European thought, and see its roots in the ancient artistic,literary movements, common religious beliefs, common legal roots and ahomogeneous political thought. After the second world war the Europeanphenomenon and cooperation between States with the support of the United States(George Marshall; 1947) 1 have been accelerated the processes of cooperation andfurther integration processes among the different States of Europe within the currentEuropean union. The various actions and interactions between States led to createdifferent organizations which are; OECD, WEU, NATO, WEU and EU.
In this work we will focus us on the European union in particular mention to refer tothe situation today, as it is structured, and finally Whither this union? There are whoconsidered that this union is going to deteriorate and that the economic crisis is thehome of its deterioration, and who believes that it is consolidating every day along with the addition of new States, integrating new communities and other companies toexpand into the space. It can the expansion and integration of new States into theunion, is fruitful for the future union, but depends on, it depends on who joins, whenand how.
1) European Organization of economic cooperation (OEEC) founded in 1948, aninitiative of the United States, in 1947 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UnitedStates George Marshall, call all European States to unify their efforts of economicreconstruction after the second World War (Dr. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, the ABC of theEU law updated; March 30, 2010, p.: 10).
There are who think, that the only salvation of the European union is to move towardsa more comprehensive federal policy included the fiscal2, i.e., that there is a commoneconomic governance (O. blond bass, D. Vegara Figueras, 1998). Whereupon we will try to describe current and finally the stage with a brief description of our future visionof the union.
The European union is currently constituted by 27 Member States, and with thenegotiations in Iceland in March, a powerful candidate for membership in the union.They began negotiations with Europe on June 17, 2010 and currently its incorporationis expected in the next few years, Iceland is located in a favourable position to accessthe status of Member State of the European Union with relative ease. Already in 1970this country joined the European Free Trade Association, later adding (1994) to theEuropean economic area.
The development of the European union, to reach the situation and current state, hashad to go through different phases in relation to statutes, treaties, legal andadministrative, to the present Treaty of Lisbon, which entered into force on oneDecember 2009, the Treaty gives the EU's modern institutions and perfect its methodsof work to address effectively the challenges of today's world solving problems such as globalization climate change, demographic, security and energy.
